Photo, Video and Media Majors Volunteer for Senior Citizens in Chungcheongnam-do

By Su-Young Kim, Editor /kimsuyoung1342@gmail.com

Seven students majoring in Photography and Video Media volunteered to take photos of elderly people in Bongjeong-dong, Gonju-si, Chungcheongnam-do. Students who donated their talents visited 17 households and wished 31 elderly people a long life by doing hairstyling, makeup, directing, and taking photos of longevity.

This volunteer activity was started to prepare students for meaningful growth experiences through a project that records the space and memories of life together based on their major competencies. The team’s name "Collect," which means recording the object, and the choice of the filming method can change the meaning of the object in that the meaning of the word can be changed by the choice of vowels. Unlike the previous format, the photos of Jangsu were taken out with white cloth and blankets used by the elderly wearing their favorite clothes in the background. In addition, the life and memories of the elderly are captured in the background of the house. Park Jae-hee, a student of the vowel team, said it was a meaningful experience to meet and talk with senior citizens in the region where the team members had grown up since they were young, and I hope the elderly will be happy looking back on their lives and memories through longevity photos. Starting with taking photos of Jangsu in Bongjeong-dong, Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do, the collection team of Sangmyung University's Photography and Video Media majors will continue to record the space and memories of life together in various places in Korea, including the area scheduled for redevelopment.

It seems to be such heartwarming and remarkable paragon for other people to know volunteer activities that help the community with good opportunities. I hope the beautiful activities of the vowel team will continue in the future.
